Greg Clarke admits Sam Allardyce received £1million pay off
Its a win/win for football managers isnt it, doesnt matter what happens there bank balance gets a massive boost.

£1million pay-out on top of his wages for BFS!!! Not bad for a few months work, little wonder the FA is a laughing stock.

This. Unless he has a morality clause in his contract that said he can't do anything unbecoming of an England manager, it's arguable he's done nothing wrong, contractually. Without cause, the FA would be looking at paying him the entirety of his contract for sacking him. Obviously there were arguments on both sides. The $1 million is a compromise to put the matter to bed swiftly.

This is the other half of someone needing to pay compensation to take someone under contract.

On top of which, to sack someone for poor performance in this country is not an easy thing to do. Employment law protects the employee, insists employers give them time to turn around the poor performance over multiple months, and only after a real extended period can you terminate someone (unless you can show serious misconduct).

Golden handshakes to get rid of people you don't want anymore are standard practice in the private sector too.

Was thinking about this when I saw Hodgson had apparently been offered silly money for a job in China and was 'considering it'. What is there to consider, you take it, you hate it, you balls it up and they let you go....you still get paid.

How many other jobs out there are there that you get paid compensation if you get sacked? can't be many if any. If you're rubbish at your job or you do something that is deemed a sackable offence then that's your problem.

Re: Greg Clarke admits Sam Allardyce received £1million pay off
Not sure the FA would have had much choice paying him the £1m, they probably weren't too happy about it but they would have got top legal advice and figured out it was their best option. no real alternative.

as for employing him in the first place, that's a different matter.

Allardyce is from the football player generation that feel they have been mugged off by the game. Excellent piece on this here:

Re: Greg Clarke admits Sam Allardyce received £1million pay off
that's the rub AOI, he was supposedly offering advice on how to circumnavigate the rules, not break them.

see jonathan calleri's ownership.

Re: Greg Clarke admits Sam Allardyce received £1million pay off
Surely Alardyce was in breach of contract by offering advice on how to break FA rules, so why the FA bottled out of firing him and instead came up with the 'leaving by mutual consent' is beyond me.

grumpster

by mutual agreement means they have paid him off to go now rather than draw it our amongst their lawyers. nothing to do with being kind. he wasn't sacked, he didn't quit.

Grumpster 11:29 Tue Oct 18
Re: Greg Clarke admits Sam Allardyce received £1million pay off
That mutual statement is just what they release to be kind to him.

Always means they have made it clear he is getting sacked, but can leave with some dignity by instead quitting.

I've been in the same position at work!!

Re: Greg Clarke admits Sam Allardyce received £1million pay off
As expected, really. If Allardyce insists he did nothing wrong and the FA disagreed, then it would go to court. Potential unfair dismissal case, which the FA need even less than the shambles they got into. It happens all the time, in all lines of business. Mutual fuck-up, but the one losing the job gets paid off.

Doubt there's an "crime" been committed, so the Police investigation will last about 10 minutes.

He neither quit nor was sacked, he left his post by mutual consent.

Re: Greg Clarke admits Sam Allardyce received £1million pay off
Anyone who quits or is sacked should get nothing, football certainly is a bizarre world.

Still, it's the fans who ultimately pay for it probably and not the FA, so I doubt they give a fuck.

Re: Greg Clarke admits Sam Allardyce received £1million pay off
Surely it's just the times we live in? High level appointments get contracts that are as soft as shit while the average bloke might be lucky to be assured of 40 hours a week. When did we start paying CEOs mega millions in salary, options and bonuses without any serious regard for the bottom line and/or the value delivered to shareholders? Sam's mill is small beer in the general scheme of things.

A pay off to walk away

The FA don't have all the info yet as the city of London police do

I can see a time in the future where damages including £1m will be sought

Re: Greg Clarke admits Sam Allardyce received £1million pay off
I can see why this would not sit well with people, but for Allardyce, who is already very wealthy, I doubt that he is sitting around rubbing his hands together for collecting a mil. He was going to be England manager for 2 years and earn a minimum of 6 mil, but instead he's lost the job he always wanted and banked a mil.

Re: Greg Clarke admits Sam Allardyce received £1million pay off
It's like they can't resist throwing money at these people.

He probably didn't even ask for it, or expect it.

" hang on Sam, before you go, we'd like to give you £1 million as well.....you know, just because we want to "
